Profiles of Youth
Criteria for selecting students for the "Profiles of Youth" column
- Students chosen for the Lake Union Herald "Profiles of Youth"
column should be juniors or seniors in academy or high school or undergraduates
at Andrews University.
- Academy: Both a male and a female student should be chosen by a vote of the faculty and staff.
- High School: Male and female students should be nominated by a pastor or local church officer. The conference communication director then selects one male and one female to be sent to the Herald office for publication.
- Andrews University: Both a male and female undergraduate student should be chosen by a vote of the dormitory and academic deans from names submitted by the faculty and/or deans.
- While spirituality, leadership, and academics are important considerations, their citizenship, special achievements, and service to their communities should also be considered when choosing students. The perseverance of students who have had enough determination to work their way through school, leaving little time for extracurricular activities, should not be overlooked.
- The completed "Profiles of Youth" Interview Form, a paragraph or two about the student with quotes from a teacher or pastor, along with a photo, should be sent to your local conference communication director for forwarding to the Lake Union Herald.
